Cereal Group
Cereals such as wheat, rice, corn, rye and oats and their derivatives are included in this group. In addition to being the main carbohydrate source in the diet apart from B12, cereals are a source of the B-group vitamins and folic acid, beta-carotene which is the precursor of vitamin A, vitamin E, C, calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, fiber and other compounds with antioxidant properties. They are rich in nutrients and it is recommended that one should consume between 3-5 servings per day.
Portion Size :
- 1 cup of cereal
- One sandwich made with two slices of wholemeal bread,
- One medium potato counts as half a serving.
